OUR OPPORTUNITY
The First Nations Tax Commission (FNTC) is seeking a Communications Coordinator to work with the Director of Communications in Kamloops, BC to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the FNTC including preparing, publishing and distributing internal and external communications materials to promote the understanding of First Nation property taxation systems, to strengthen linkages with other organizations and governments, and to implement best practices.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to the development of communication strategies, objectives, work plans and performance measures for the communications business area.
- Researches, writes, prepares and organizes presentation materials (print and electronic media, speaking notes, briefings, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations) to support speaking engagements, presentations and for distribution to stakeholders.
- Designs, recommends and implements communication and media strategies to raise awareness and understanding of First Nation taxation using publications, presentations and other approved methods of information dissemination as outlined in the FNTC Communications Strategy.
- Makes presentations and attends meetings, tradeshows and other events and as may be required to ensure successful communications are provided for FNTC.
- Assists with the coordination of communication activities and events for the FNTC by providing appropriate communication materials, including translations, and/or coordinating logistics, as necessary.
- Supports the development, design, update, maintenance and publication of materials on the FNTC website (www.fntc.ca), and other websites required by the FNTC to support programs and special initiatives, and mobile applications.
- Develops an outline and coordinates development of content including preparing, writing, layout, design, distribution and publication of the Clearing the Path newsletter.
- Researches and undertakes interviews with staff and stakeholders to prepare content for communication materials and newsletters.
- Coordinates the translation, and verifies accuracy thereof, of all FNTC materials, and ensures compliance with the Official Languages Act.
- Drafts and coordinates distribution of approved press and media releases and the dissemination of FNTC materials to the public.
- Drafts communications materials and coordinates communications, and media relations as required with institutions, federal government, and organizations with established working relationships with the FNTC.
- Liaises with media services and provides support to the FNTC in coordinating interviews, providing background information and other materials as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Graduation from a recognized university in communications or a related discipline, or a combination of education in a relevant field (including public relations, Indigenous affairs, communications, etc.), training and/or 5 years relevant experience.
- Excellent writing, communication and public relations skills.
- Demonstrated content development and management expertise along with strong writing, editing, proofreading, and professional printing/publishing skills.
- Experience with the design, development and delivery of Communications programs within all levels of an organization.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital and online media
- Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, and Publisher and other information management and CRM systems.
- Proficiency in using Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe InDesign.
