OUR OPPORTUNITY
The First Nations Tax Commission is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our team and play a key role in contributing to the growth of our education department. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for the development of courses and programs related to the development and delivery of the First Nations Tax Commission education mandate. The Instructional Designer is responsible for providing excellence in course design and development, working with a course development team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Instructional Designer will work directly with subject matter experts to facilitate course renewal and/or development as part of a course development team. Specifically, they will guide the development of learning outcomes, instructional design plans, learning activities, and assessment instruments; monitor, assess, revise, and provide support to subject matter experts and faculty colleagues, in particular with respect to helping to ensure academic integrity, copyright, and respect of intellectual property in course materials; and work with the media team and graphic artists along with editorial and intellectual property staff.
The successful candidate will also have experience implementing contemporary instructional design principles, developing instruction to address specific learning profiles, managing multiple projects with their shifting priorities and timelines, writing clear instructional material, providing coaching and training, attending to detail and evaluating and making recommendations regarding instructional design in various modalities in keeping with departmental quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree required; may include—but is not restricted to—master’s degrees in education, curriculum and instruction, distributed and blended learning, educational technology.
- 3-5 years demonstrated experience in curriculum design and development, including:
- developing instructional design plans
- guiding the development of learning outcomes, course outlines, learning activities, and assessment instruments,
- incorporating appropriate educational technologies,
- Experience working collaboratively with teams – both large and small.
- Knowledge of learning theory, including assessment and evaluation.
- A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience, post-secondary with adult learners preferred.
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in online, distance and open education, with respect to innovative pedagogies, learning outcomes, and assessment.
- Demonstrated experience leading project teams effectively.
- Superior time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including the ability to attend to detail in written materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit effectively, using plain language.
