THE OPPORTUNITY
The First Nations Tax Commission (FNTC) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Registrar to play a central role in support First Nations governance and self- determination. In this role, you’ll manage and maintain key law and by-law registries, guide First Nations through legislative processes, and ensure accurate records and smooth coordination for Commission and Committee meetings. Working closely with leadership, tax advisors, and various internal teams, this is an excellent opportunity to strengthen the economic independence and success of First Nations communities.

The FNTC is a national and growing First Nations-led institution established under the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (FMA). Our vision is to support and expand First Nation revenue streams to grow economies on First Nation lands, and thereby support healthy, vibrant and sustainable First Nation communities.
Our main office is located on the traditional territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc, in Kamloops, BC, with a secondary office in Ottawa, ON.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Oversee and maintain the FMA Law Registry and s.83 By-law Registry, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with all legislative requirements.
- Track and support the development and review of laws and by-laws, collaborating with Tax Advisors and other internal stakeholders.
- Guide First Nations governments through the law/by-law submission and approval process, ensuring documentation is complete and published in the First Nations Gazette.
- Prepare and coordinate agendas, briefing materials, and logistics for Commission and Committee meetings, including distributing materials and supporting on-site setups.
- Maintain accurate records of meetings, registries, and related documentation, including managing records in the Law Review Tool (LRT) and SharePoint systems.
- Prepare reports, compile data on law/by-law activities, and support grant administration related to law development.
- Assist with special projects, correspondence, and other administrative tasks that support overall organizational effectiveness.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Paralegal/Legal Administration, Office Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax or legal administration, or senior administrative support, ideally within Indigenous organizations, government, or professional services.
- Experience working with First Nations governments or Indigenous organizations is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and familiarity with CRM systems and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams).
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; English is essential, French is an asset.
- A collaborative mindset and a commitment to supporting Indigenous governance and community success.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within Canada.
